Die Firma "Gustave Staar SA" wurde 1912 von Gustave Staar (23.11.1894 - 2.5.1951) gegründet. Als innovationsfreudiger Geschäftsmann ließ er sich von Waren und Ideen aus den USA begeistern und importierte z.B. von dort die ersten Indian Motorräder. Schließlich widmete er sich jedoch den ersten Tischfußballgeräten, Ski-Ball, Radios und schließlich ab 1937 auch Plattenspielern. Dies resultierte darin, dass er im gleichen Jahr die ersten automatischen Plattenwechsler für 78er Schallplatten mit Auswahl und Münzeinwurf ein vorstellte. Im 2. Weltkrieg engagierte er sich im belgischen Widerstand, wofür er mehrfach ausgezeichnet wurde. 1946 reichte er sein Patent für den ersten "Plattenschlucker" ein (CH267782 - angemeldet 1947 mit Priorität in Belgien 1946), den "Staar-Magic". Die beiden Söhne Marcel und Theo, ebenfalls involviert, lösten Ende der 1950er Jahre die Firma Staar auf. Marcel gründete "Staar Development" und Theo "Staar S.A."		The comany "Gustave Staar SA" was founded in 1912 by Gustave Staar (Nov 23, 1894 - May 2, 1951). As an innovative businessman, he was inspired by articles and ideas from the USA and imported the first Indian motorbikes from there, for example. Eventually, however, he turned his attention to the first table football equipment, ski-ball, radios and finally, from 1937, to record players. This resulted in introducing the first automatic record changer for 78 rpm records with selection and coin slot in the same year. During WW2, he was involved in the Belgian resistance, for which he received several awards. In 1946 he filed a patent for the first "record swallower" (French "mange disque) - CH267782, filed 1947 with priority in Belgium 1946) - the "Staar-Magic". The two sons Marcel and Theo, also involved, dissolved the company Staar at the end of the 1950s. Marcel founded "Staar Development" and Theo "Staar S.A."
