The grizzly (Ursus arctos horribilis) belongs to the same family as the black bear. And even though their names suggest very different fur colours that is not a distinctive feature. Not all grizzly bears are grey, indeed they can often be brown, black or even beige. The two species only differ from each other in small details, such as their claws. A grizzly bear's claws tend to be longer and straighter, making it harder for grown animals to climb on trees. But in return they are very swift, being able to run at speeds of up to 72km/h (44 mph).
Just like all bears the grizzly lives on a fix territory: in the velds of tundra, alpine meadows and dark forests. In the United States this animal has become very uncommon, the exception being reservation areas such as the Yellowstone National Park. But in Canada it still inhabits large regions in the north and close to the coast.

Grizzly bears are omnivores, but berries and honey are a special treat for them - similar to us humans. During fall they eat so much that they can gain up to 3 kg (6 lb) each day. This is necessary, since they have to live off their fat layer while they hibernate. Grizzlies do hibernate during most of the winter, but in contrast to other bears they sometimes wake up and leave their shelters in order to search for food. At the end of the winter their cubs are born, often three. Their mother cares for them the first two or three years of their life, until they become independent and search for their own territory.

Though the bear is one of the largest predator on land, as the teddy bear it is (probably) most popular with children. One can snuggle with it, and the teddy bear gives solace to children in moments of sadness.

Our plush grizzly "Julia" loves to wander through the forests, to watch nature , or just to dream for a while. maybe she looks for "Romeo" (Kö-F6882). Of course she will feel comfortable with other plush animals around and being a true companion in daily life of its young owner.
The last photo shows "Julia" sitting at front right together with some other brown bears.
