Wild Cat "Peppi", small

Product 6 of 106

The wild cat (Felis silvestris) is the wild relative of our tame house cat. It lives in Europe, Africa and Asia. Though it is spread widely, in Germany it hardly can be found. Beginning of last century man started to wipe out these animals.
New projects of the BUND work to set up green corridors between isolated forests to offer more environment to the wild cats. A first success can be seen already, in different locations the wild cat returned. The proof of these very shy animals, one hardly gets to see them, has to be done by DNA analysis of their hair.

Wild cats are slightly stronger and taller than our house cats. Their fur is bushy, light-brown-greyish and striped with an eel back. They do have white whiskers and a bushy tail with dark coloured rings. Wild cats live mostly by themselves and are territorial.

It is said that the European wild cat developed about 300,000 years ago.

Our little wild cat "Peppi" is still a kitten and learns by playing how to catch mice, beware of dogs and get pet by the owner. It needs rest from time to time to gather new energy for new adventures and things to learn about.
