Moose (Alces alces) are deer that live in the arctic regions of both Europe and America. It lives solitarily in the nothern forests with its swampy earth, the great leakes and rivers. In the mountains it can be found up to an elevation of 2600 m (~8530 ft) and can withstand temperatures down to -50°C (-58°F).

Moose are very tall, have a bulky body and long, thin legs. Its distinctive plate-like antlers spreads up to 2.5 metres (6.6'). The hooves can be spread and allow to move in swampy terrain well. With its long legs it can overcome obstacles better than its predators. In mating season moose will attack each other, leading to spectacular fights, but normally they do not hurt each other. The bull and the cow attract each other with their typical calls.

Moose mostly feed of young plants, such as forbs or fresh shoots, but water plants too. They can dive and swim very well, being able to cross sounds.

The moose is Swedens National Animal. Meanwhile through immigration from East Europe it can be seen in Germany too. A small colony is living in the state of Brandenburg.

Our moose too is an impressive creature. But it is more cuddly and gregarious than its living fellow. Being a plush moose it did not immigrate but was produced in Bad Kösen in Germany.
