The red panda (Ailurus fulgens), or little panda, is a noticeably coloured animal. The back and tail are copper red and its face has a white-red drawing. The Chinese call him firefox.
Discovered was the Red Panda by the English General Thomas Hardwicke, but first described and named by the French zoologist Frederic Cuvier. He called the red panda being the most beautiful mammal on earth.
Though he is not directly related to them, he is called panda. "Panda" is derived from the Nepalese word for "bamboo eater" which the Red Panda is. But the food contains also fruits, berries, roots, and sometimes even insects, bird's eggs etc.
Red Pandas are not an endangered species (yet), but suffer from decreasing mountain forests where they live. Those are especially in Nepal, Burma, South-China, and North India.
In a cooperation with local people in North India the WWF developed a concept to protect the red panda. And in Sikkim, North Indiia, this animal became a "State animal" a few years ago.

In the daytime red pandas like to lie stretched in the treetops, only in the evening they start to take action. But before foraging they thoroughly engage in grooming, similarly to cats, by licking their paws and rubbing their fur with them. Furthermore they are very clever, in zoos they are known as being the 'serial jailbreakers'.

Our little plush red panda will surely not run away. Instead it rather cuddles with its owner or plays outside looking for new adventures. It is prepared for a fun or joke at any the time.
