The Tibetan Blue Bear (Ursus arctos pruinosus) is a subspecies of the Brown Bear. It lives in the Highlands of Tibet and is known as well as Himalayan Blue Bear, Himalayan Snow Bear, Tibetan Brown Bear, or the Horse Bear. In Tibet itself it is known as Dom gyamuk and belongs to the most rarest subspecies of bears at all.
Because it is seldomly seen not much is known about the Tibetan Blue Bear and its mode of life. It is big, but mostly feeds on roots and small animals, as it lives in the barren, vast landscapes that are seldomly entered by men. The Tibetan Blue Bear is most recognizable about its grey-brown fur being unique.
Reinhold Messner, a famous German mountain climber and explorer, and other explorers that have long investigated the Himalaya and its fauna, have a very special theory about the Tibetan Blue Bear. They speculate that the legends about the Yeti are based on this bear. Even though it has dark coloured fur, they assume that in the mythology of the locals it becomes the snow- and man-bear. This could not yet be confirmed yet. But already in 1960 Sir Edmund Hillary made an expedition and found fur that the locals explained to be 'Yeti-fur'. Later it was identified to be fur of the Tibetian Blue Bear.

Out Tibetan Blue Bear takes a rest after hiking though the mountains. Maybe it found an unsuspecting hiker somewhere that had the most sensational surprise? Surely it is hungry and tired. Though, it seems somebody is coming its way. The bear looks excited and salutes with its paw.
