Wild Boar

Product 8 of 8

The wild boar (Sus scrofa) is the ancestor of the domestic pig. They have been popular for hunting and thus vanished from large parts of Europe. Due to escapes from farms, where they are bred for their meat, and articifial introduction into America and Ozeania, the population is quite stable and wide-spread again today.

Wild Boards have bristly fur that protects them against rain and cold. Young wild boar piglets have a softer fur until the age of six months, that is brown with yellow stripes, a perfect camouflage on the ground. The sows live in sounders, that are groups of adult sows, together with their offspring.

In freedom one should be aware of encountering scenes like shown on the last picture, for sows vigourously defend their piglets (Kö-F3190). Our plush family however is completely harmless, the sow is eagerly looking forward to her and her piglets being pet.
