Geese (Anserinae) are a breeding bird which belong to the subfamily of ducks. They are populated in the Arctic, Europe and Asia. For hibernation they fly to North Africa in large flocks showing their typical "V"-formation and with a loud gaggle. This can be heard well from a far distance already. Geese feed of plants, roots and berries, but not in the water.

Geese were was already held by Romans and Germanic tribes because of their flesh and feathers. But they can be found as religious or cultural figures too, e.g. in Egypt history. In fairytales geese often represent stupid figures. Geese are monogam, once found, they stay with their partner. The nest-building and hatching are done by the female only (except for the black swan), but afterwards the family stays together closely. But geese are very sociable animals anyway, they live in big flocks.

The second photo shows the white goose (Kö-F6390) together with the grey goose.
