The kangaroo (Macropodidae) belongs to the family of marsupials and are domesticated in Australia with New Guinea and Tasmania. Together with the emu it is Australian's heraldic animal. Both animals can only move forward - which symbolizes progress.

The term "kangaroo" derives from the Aborigines word „gangurru“ (resp. gang-oo-roo) refering to grey cangaroos.
While the Red Kangaroo reaches a height of ca. 180 cm the woylie only gets a size of a rabbit. But the typical look is identical with all kangaroos: short front legs, long and powerful hind legs and a muscular tail which is needed for the balance. Depending on the species kangaroos can jump up to 12 m and reach a speed of 80 km/h. But they prefer to hop at about 20 - 25 km/h. Getting cornerd a kangaroo defenses itself drumming with its front legs and kicking with its hind legs.

Usually marsupials, or piuched animals, are mavericks. But the kangaroo is different: It is social and lives in a mob with other kangaroos. Rock Wallabies even do have a stable partner.

We do not know which species our kangaroo belongs to. The joey is still carried inside the pouch. It can be taken out and in again, and hence enriches children's phantasy when playing.
