Lautstärkeregler funktioniert nur schlecht, er kratzt und ist fast nicht mehr einstellbar.

The potentiometer works troublesome only, it causes a crackling noise and almost not adjustable any more.

Möglich ist, dass die innen liegenden Schleifbahnen im Laufe der Jahre verschlissen sind. Dann hilft nur ein Ersatz.

Es ist jedoch auch möglich, dass die Schleifbahnen im Laufe der Jahre durch Staub verdreckt und/oder oxidiert sind. Dann kann es helfen, wenn man es mit einem guten Kontaktspray (z. B. Oszillin, Kontakt 60, DeoxIT Faderlube, Ballistol, sehr feines Nähmaschinenöl) einsprüht und so lange hin und herdreht, bis das Krachen weg ist. Bei diesen Ölen ist wichtig, dass sie gute Kriecheigenschaften haben und mittel- und langfristig nicht verharzen und dadurch das Potentiometer verkleben.

It is possible that the internal circuit tracks are worn over the years. In that case, only a replacement will help.

It is also possible that the circuit tracks have become dirty and/or oxidized by dust over the years. In this case, it may help to clean it with a good contact spray (e.g. Oszillin, Contact 60, DeoxIT Faderlube, Ballistol, a very fine sewing machine oil) and turn it back and forth until the crackling noise is gone.
With these oils it is important that they have good creep properties and that they do not resinify in the medium and long term and thus cause the potentiometer to get sticky.

Beim Regulieren der Lautstärke einer AMI H kracht es ziemlich. Wie kann ich das beheben?

When adjusting the level of an AMI H it makes crackling noise. How can this be solved?

Die Potis dieser AMI-Verstärker sind schaltungsbedingt mit Gleichstrom beaufschlagt, daher ist es normal (wenn auch unschön), dass sie kratzen und knirschen beim Verstellen.
Es sind Drahtpotis mit einer speziellen Schleiferkonstruktion. Sie lassen sich vorsichtig öffnen und in ihre groben Bestandteile zerlegen, sind also zu reinigen - und sollten dann wieder etwas geräuschärmer sein.
Mit einem "normalen" Poti wird sich meiner Erfahrung nach ein noch schlechterer Effekt einstellen.

The potentiometer of these AMI amplifiers have DC current applied to them due to the circuitry. So it's common (even if not nice) for them to scratch and grind while being adjusted.
They are wire potentiometers with a special wiper design. They can be carefully opened and disassembled into their coarse components, so they can be cleaned and should be somewhat quieter again afterwards.
In my experience, a "normal" potentiometer will have an even worse effect.

Es ist normal, dass der Verstärker ohne angeschlossenes Potentiometer auf voller Lautstärke spielt.
Wert des Potis: 2x10 KOhm

It is typical that an amplifier without connceected potentiometer plays at max volume.

In der Musikbox befinden sich dort, wo einmal der Lautstärkeregler saß, nur 5 abgeschnittene Kabel. Ersatzpotis haben oft 6 Anschlüsse. Wie kann ich diese anschließen?

Die Masseanschlüsse der beiden Sektoren werden zusammen gefasst und mit der Abschirmung des Kabels verbunden.
Ab der R-83 wurde die Abschirmung nicht mehr benötigt.

In the jukebox, where the volume control once was installed, there are only 5 cut wires. Replacement pots often have 6 connections. How can I connect them?

The ground connections of the two sectors get gathered together and connected to the shield of the wire.
Starting with the R-83, the shield was no longer needed.
