The mallard duck (Anas platyrhynchos)was (at least in Germany) also called "March Duck". This name refers to the fact that mallards already breed in March. It is the largest and most common duck in Europe.
Male mallards do have more colourful feathers, but most easy known by their green-metallic coloured head. Since the 18th century due to environmental alterations, urbanisation of the mallard duck can be seen - like on the blackbird. So they do live in cities as well as in natural seas, rivers, etc.

The nest is uasually a flat dell in the grass or at the shore. Nevertheless, sometimes a nest can be found on a roof as well in case it is well covered with greens, e.g. ivy. After hatching the ducklings drop themselves to the ground and follow their mother to the next water.

Our duckling likes to sit in the grass enjoying the sun. Of course it loves to be around with other ducklings.
