Bactrian Camel "Gobi"

The Bactrian Camel (Camelus bactrianus or Camelus ferus) has two humps on its back and belonmgs to the family of camels of course. It is doemsticated in Asia and Middle East. Mainly it is used as a beats of burdon and farm animal.
Bactrian camels are adapted to dry regions and deserts optimal. They can stand a temperature differences from -30° C to +40° C and adjust their water balance very well. More advantages are the following: the eyes do have large lids and long eyelashes. The nostrils are shaped like a slot and can be closed. There is a groove between the nostrils and the divided upper lip hence fluid gets lead into the mouth and doesn't get lost. The closeable nostrils help to stand sand storms.
The humps are needed as a fat reservoir, so the Bactrian Camel can withstand periods of little food well.

Our "Gobi" shows stuffed humps and we hope it will stay so in the future.
