Next to seven more species the brown bear (Ursus arctos) is mostly spread. It lives basically by itself on a fix territory: in the velds of tundra, alpine meadows and dark forests. The brown bear can be found in North America, Skandinavia, Russia, Japan, East Europe, the Near East, China and in Mongolia.
In South and Middle Europe in Italy, Spain, France and Austria some brown bears could be settled again.

Brown bears are omnivores, but berries and honey are a special treat for them - similar to us humans. During fall they eat so much that they can gain up to 3 kg (6 lb) each day. This is necessary, since they have to live off their fat layer while they hibernate. At the end of the winter their cubs are born, often two. Their mother cares for them the first two or three years of their life, until they become independent and search for their own territory.

Though the bear is one of the largest predator on land, as the teddy bear it is (probably) most popular for children. One can snuggle with it, and the teddy bear gives solace to children in moments of sadness.

Our plush brown bear "Emma" takes a rest after wandering through the forest. But she likes to romp around, play with other bears too and to explore the world and nature.

The history of "Emma": The real brown bear "Emma" lived with "Max" at the experience restaurant in Biberstein, Switzerland. They were kept ther in a bear pit on 36 m² of concrete for eight years. The nature, the sky and light could only be seen when looking up.
Finally under the pressure of Swiss animal-rights activists both bears were brought to the Bear Park Worbis where they did find a new home in free nature.
