The chinchilla is a rodent that lives in the South American Andes and belongs to the family of Chinchillidae. It has a very peculiar look, a mixture between a hare and a coney but with a very long, bushy tail. Its fur is very soft and serves to protect the chinchilla from the bitterly cold nights and hot days in the high altitudes of up to 5000 m it inhabits. The burrows Chinchillas live in are for raising the offsprings, store food and for social life in general. Staying close to each other offers shelter and protection against the cold as well.
Chichillas are are very frugal, they do not need water as they get all their needs from the fruits and plants they find.
The real chinchilla is nocturnal and lives in burrows. Thanks to the big eyes and large ears it is well adapted to dawn and darkness.

Being a nocturnal real chinchillas are not really suitable as cuddly pet animals. Luckily the opposite is true for our plush chinchilla "Murmel". It loves to play around during daytime and cuddle with you or on the shelf with other plush animals during the night. For company it  only needs an affectionate human that will stroke and appreciate it. Try it out, surely you both will be very happy.
