The Common Hamster or European hamster (cricetus cricetus) as a rodent belongs to the family of Cricetinae. Its is mostly spread in Eurasia, extending from Belgium to the Altai mountains and the north-west region of China. Originated in the steppes of East-Europe it spread to Western Europe in the course of intensive agriculture.

As a typical earth dweller, it is found almost only in loess and loamy soils. Deep, branched earth caves, that contain a living and a storage, are both up to one meter deep in the winter-building. Caves of the individually living males are usually smaller. Typical are the vertical tubes and usually two or three entrances. Industrial agriculture presses the habitats of the field hamsters today that much that they belong to the endangered species in Germany.
The hamster is primarily nocturnal and a loner. It feeds mainly on grain and legumes, clover, potatoes, beets and corn. Hamsters like to collect food, which they cover for bad times. In return, they stuff them into their cheek bags for transport and then hide them in their underground storages. Therefore up to 5 kg of grains can be collected.

Hamsters are popular pets, especially for kids or working people. They don't need much time. Of course they like to get out of their cages and be played with.

Real hamsters reach an age of 2 - 4 years only. Our plush hamster of course will stay with you for many years, being a great companion and friend when kept well and with love. At any time it loves to play around, to explore and find adventures - or just being close to you.
