Troubles with selections

My Wurlitzer 1015 plays two records when I select one.

Problem: Meine Wurlitzer 1015 spielt zwei Schallplatten, obwohl ich nur eine wähle. Es scheint immer die Platte zu sein, die vor der gewählten liegt. Wenn ich Nummer 13 wähle, spielt er zuerst die Nummer 12 und dann die Nummer 13. Das passiert nicht immer, aber meistens. Ist dies eine Fehleinstellung?

Antwort: Dieser Fehler tritt nur in einem speziellen Fall auf: wenn die zuletzt gewählte Nummer z.B. die #15 war und der Mechanismus nach dem Abspielen der letzten gewählten #15-Platte dort in Parkstellung ging. Soll die #14 gespielt werden, muss sich der Wählhebel (Teileliste 1015 S. 14) um fast 360° drehen (ist genau 345°), um den gewählten Pin #14 zu erreichen. Aber wegen der falschen Einstellung der Schraube auf der Segmentzahnrad-Laufrolle dreht sich der Wählhebel nur weniger als die benötigten 345° (erreicht den Pin #14 nicht) und spielt die #13.
Nach dem Abspielen der nicht gewählten #13 ist die #14 immer noch aktiv (der Mikroschalter auf der Vorderseite des Selektors ist noch in der ON-Position) und der Wahlhebel dreht sich zur eingestellten #14 und spielt sie ab.

Der zweite Fehler in der Mechanik wird durch eine falsche Einstellung der Stellschraube der Segmentzahnradrolle verursacht:
Wenn Sie auf Seite 10 der Teileliste des 1015er Handbuchs nachschauen, sehen Sie oben die komplette Segmentgetriebebaugruppe.
Unter der Teilenummer 29353 ( Plattenmontage, Segmentgetriebe ) sehen Sie eine Rolle und eine Stellschraube mit Mutter.
Um das Auswahlproblem zu lösen, lösen der Mutter und die Schraube um eine Vierteldrehung im Uhrzeigersinn drehen, dann die Mutter wieder festziehen.
Danach testen, ob die richtige Schallplatte abgespielt wird: Schauen Sie nach, bei welcher Nummer des Mechanismus nach der letzten Auswahl geparkt wurde (z.B. #5) und drücken Sie dann den #4-Knopf, um den #4-Stift am Selektor einzustellen.
Wenn die Stellschraube auf der Walzenplatte des Segmentgetriebes richtig eingestellt wurde, sollte die Wählerkurbel nach einer 345°-Drehung den Stift #4 erreichen.
Wenn die Musikbox wieder die Nummer vor der gewählten Nummer spielt (im Beispiel #3 statt der gewählten #4), müssen Sie die Stellschraube der Segmentzahnradrollenplatte eine zweite Vierteldrehung einstellen, wie oben beschrieben.

Problem: My Wurlitzer 1015 plays two records when I select one only. It seems to be always the record before the one I have selected. If I select number 13 it takes first number 12 and then number 13. This will not happen always but mostly. Is this a mis-adjustment?

Answer: This mistakes occurs only in a special case: If the last selected number was for example the #15 and the mech parked there after playing the last selected #15 record and you want to play the #14, the selector crank (page 14 in the parts list of the 1015) has to turn nearly 360° (is is exactly 345°) to reach the selected #14 pin. But because of a wrong adjustment of the screw on the segment gear roller plate, your selector crank only turns less than the needed 345° (doesn`t reach the #14 pin ) and plays #13.
After playing the not selected #13 record, the #14 pin is still set (the micro switch on the face of the selector is still in ON position) and the selector crank turns to the set #14 and plays that selection.


Your second mistake within the mech is caused by a wrong adjustment of the set screw of the segment gear roller:
If you have a look on page 10 of the parts list of the 1015 manual, you see on top the complete segment gear assembly.
On the part number 29353 ( plate assembly, segment gear ) you see a roller and a set screw with nut.
To solve the selection problem, you have to loosen the nut and turn the screw a quarter turn clockwise and lock the nut again.
After that, you have to test whether the correct record will be played: Look at what number the mech had parked after the last selection (for exmaple #5) than push the #4 button to set the #4 pin on the selector.
If the set screw on the segment gear roller plate was adjusted correct, the selector crank should reach the #4 pin after a 345° turn.
If the juekbox plays again the number before the selected number (in the example #3 instead of the selected #4), you have to adjust the set screw of the segment gear roller plate a second quarter turn, like described above.

Wurlitzer 1015 nimmt von den beiden rechten Tastaturblöcken (13-24) keine Wahl an. Die beiden linken Blöcke (1-12) funktionieren.

Wurlitzer 1015 does not accept any selection from the two right-hand keyboard blocks (13-24). The two left-hand blocks (1-12) work.

Durch die vier Tastenblöcke läuft eine "durchgehende" Leitung, die von Tastenblock zu Tastenblock durch ein Kabel weiter geführt wird. Vermutlich ist da "der Draht ab" ...
Auf den vier Tastenblöcken waren ab Werk ehemals durchsichtige, heute vergilbte und vor allem geschrumpfte Kunststoffabdeckungen als Kontaktschutz mit den Platinchen verschraubt. Durch die Schrumpfung dieser Abdeckungen verzieht es die kleinen Pertinaxplatinchen und es kann auch dadurch zu Kontaktproblemen kommen. Bitte diese Abdeckungen abschrauben oder in Originalgröße ersetzen.

A "continuous" line runs through the four keyboard blocks, which is routed from keyboard block to keyboard block via a cable. Presumably the wire is off ...

Formerly transparent, now yellowed and, above all, shrunken plastic covers were screwed onto the four keyboard blocks at the factory to protect the little  platinum contacts. The shrinkage of these covers distorts the small pertinax circuit boards and can also lead to contact problems. Please unscrew these covers or replace them in their original size.


 

Nehmen Sie den kompletten Selektor ab (nur den Selektor, nicht den Schalter darunter) und drücken eine Taste, um eine Spule auf dem Selektor zu aktivieren, so dass der kleine Mikroschalter auf der Vorderseite des Selektors ebenfalls aktiviert (geschlossen) wird.
Dieser Mikroschalter ist geschlossen, wenn eine Spule aktiviert ist, und der geschlossene Schalter startet den Hauptmotor.

Wenn der Mechanismus richtig funktionieren würde, sollte er eine Auswahl nach der anderen abspielen und zwar so, dass er z.B. mit der #7 beginnt, danach die #6, danach die #5 und so weiter (Auswahl für Auswahl in umgekehrter Richtung) ohne Ende.

Wenn dies nicht der Fall ist, ist sie nicht gut eingestellt und vielleicht nicht gut geschmiert.

Take off the complete selector (only the selector and not the switch below), press one button to activate one coil on the selector and so the small microswitch on the front side of the selector would be activared (closed), too.

This microswitch is closed if one coil is activated and the closed switch let the main motor begin to turn.

If your mech would work correct, the mech should play one selection after the other and in the way, that it starts for example with the #7, after that #6, after that #5 and so on (selection for selection in reverse direction) without end.


If this don`t happens, it is not well adjusted and maybe not well lubricated.


 

Eine bisher funktionierende W1100 spielt keine Wahl ab. Nach dem Wählen hört man nicht das typische Summen. Es passiert einfach nichts.

A previously workin W1100 does not play a selection. You don't hear the typical buzzing sound after dialing. Simply nothing happens.

Zuerst einmal sollte geklärt werden, ob die Spannung zur Tastatur durch das Kreditwerk freigegeben wird - egal ob auf Dauerfreispiel oder mit Geldeinwurf.
-  Ohne Geldeinwurf: man findet einen Kurzschluss-Stecker vorne an der Innentür, an der auch der Lautsprecher hängt.
-  Mit Geldeinwurf (original): ohne Kurzschluss-Stecker.

Dann gilt zu prüfen, ob das Zählwerk bei jedem Tastendruck hochzählt.
Dieses befindet sich auf dem Netzteil hinten links im Gerät, wenn man beide Fronttüren geöffnet hat.

Schließlich sollte die Sicherung im silbernen Kasten unter dem Zählwerk geprüft werden. Original war eine träge 3/8A bzw. 400 mA Sicherung verbaut.

Ein weitere Testmöglichkeit:
Von Hauptmotor (schwarz, links unter dem Mechanikboard) geht eine Kardankupplung (mit zwei Lederscheiben) nach rechts in die Mechanik.
Diese Kardankupplung sollte sich leicht und ohne Widerstand mit der Hand drehen lassen.

Nun werden die Wahlstifte beobachtet. Wenn ein Pin am Selector beim Wählen gesetzt wird, dann wird der Mikroschalter auf dem Selector (hinter der gelblich transparenten Abdeckung) durch die "wobble plate" betätigt, der dann den Motor (und Verstärker) einschaltet. Es könnte sein, dass dieser Mikroschalter defekt ist oder justiert werden muß. Wichtig: nicht auf das Klicken des Mikroschalters verlassen, sondern diesen mit einem Ohmmeter prüfen.
Voraussetzung hierfür ist allerdings, dass beim Wählen auch ein Pin gesetzt wird ...
Zum Testen der Funktion des Mikroschalters: die transparente (oft gelblich verfärbte) Abdeckung demontieren und den "Pin", der mittig aus dem Selector kommt, für etwa 10 Sek mit der Hand drücken. Normalerweise sollte der Hauptmotor dann loslaufen und eine Platte spielen.
Möglich ist, wenn der Mikroschalter in Ordnung ist, dass er mit seinem Betätigungspin zu "knapp" eingestellt oder etwas schwergängig ist und deshalb trotz der getätigten Wahlen nicht ganz zuverlässig betätigt wird - und somit der Hauptmotor nicht gestartet wird. Reinigung - wenn schwergängig - oder 1 (!) Tropfen Öl kann helfen. Insgesamt: Die Mechanik hin und wieder ölen, sie sollte nicht "trocken" laufen!

First of all, it should be checked if voltage to the keyboard is released by the credit unit - regardless of whether it is set to free play or with money inserted.
- Without money: There is a short-circuit plug at the front of the inner door, where the loudspeaker is also connected.
- With money (original): Without short-circuit plug.

Then check whether the counter counts up each time the button is pressed.
This is located on the power supply unit at the rear left of the jukebox when both front doors are open.

Finally, the fuse in the silver box below the counter should be checked. Originally, a slow-blow 3/8A or 400 mA fuse was installed.

Another test option:
A cardan coupling (with two leather disks) goes from the main motor (black, on the left under the mechanism board) to the mechanism on the right.
This cardan coupling should be easy to turn by hand without resistance.
 

The selector pins are now monitored. When a pin on the selector is set during selecting, the microswitch on the selector (behind the yellowish transparent cover) is actuated by the wobble plate, which then switches on the motor (and amplifier). It could be that this microswitch is defective or needs to be adjusted. Important: Do not rely on the click of the microswitch, but check it with an ohmmeter.
The prerequisite for this, however, is that a pin is indeed set when selecting ...
To test the function of the microswitch: Remove the transparent (often yellowish) cover and press the "pin" that comes out of the center of the selector by hand for about 10 seconds. Normally, the main motor should then start running and play a record.
If the microswitch is in order, it is possible that its actuating pin is set too "tight" or that it is a little stiff and is therefore not actuated reliably despite the selections made - and therefore the main motor is not started. Cleaning - if stiff - or 1 (!) drop of oil can help. Overall: Oil the mechanism from time to time, it should not run "dry"!

Wurlitzer 1100: Wird eine Platte zweimal hintereinander gewählt, wird fälschlicherweise die davor liegende abgespielt und dann zusätzlich die Gewählte.

Wurlitzer 1100: If a record is selected twice one after another, the previous record is played incorrectly and then the selected ones is played as well.

Ablauf des Problems als Beispiel:
Die Platte Nr 1 wird gewählt. Diese wird wie gewohnt abgespielt und korrekt ins Magazin zurück gelegt. Der Motor schaltet ab, der Selector-Arm läuft noch etwas nach (ca. ein Pin).
Die Platte Nr. 1 wird wieder gewählt. Der dazugehörige Pin wird richtig gesetzt, der Selector-Arm dreht sich, schafft aber nicht die fast volle 360 Grad Drehung, sondern beendet seine Drehung genau einen Pin vor dem geschossen Pin, in diesem Fall bei der Platte Nr. 2.
Die Platte Nr. 2 wird abgespielt und danach zurück ins Magazin gelegt. Da Pin 1 immer noch geschossen ist, wird die eigentlich gewählte Platte Nr. 1 anschließend gespielt.

Antwort:
Ist die letzte Platte gespielt und schaltet die Box danach "ab", dann bleibt der Sucharm hinter dem Selector im Zwischenraum zwischen dem zuletzt gespielten Pin (Platte) und dem nächst folgenden Pin stehen.
Wenn dies nicht der Fall sein sollte, dann muss der Abschaltpunkt für den Motor auf "etwas früher" gestellt werden (der Mikroschalter unter dem Selector).

Wird jetzt zufällig die zuletzt gespielte Platte wieder gewünscht, muss der Sucharm hinter dem Seelctor ja fast eine 360 Grad Drehung ausführen. Diese Drehung hängt allein davon ab, welchen Hub das "tortenförmige" Pertinaxzahnsegment ausführt.
Wenn der Hub zu gering ist, schafft der Sucharm hinter dem Selector keine 360 Grad und spielt die davor liegende Platte (die gar nicht gewählt wurde und deren Pin auch gar nicht gesetzt ist / hervor steht).
Da der gewünschte Stift, ein Platz weiter, aber noch gesetzt ist (jedoch nicht erreicht wurde) bleibt der Motor unter Spannung und spielt dann doch die gewünschte Platte. Durch den immer noch gesetzten Pin erfolgt ein erneuter Suchvorgang und auch das "tortenförmige" Pertinaxzahnsegment führt seinen Hub erneut aus und schiebt den Sucharm über die Steifigkeit der Torsionsfeder weiter zum nächsten gesetzten Pin ...... in diesem Fall ein kurzer Weg, weil es ja der nächstliegende Pin ist (die Torsionsfeder wird in diesem Fall tatsächlich weiter vorgespannt .... sogar maximal).

Fehlerbehebung:
Unten am "tortenförmigen" Pertinaxzahnsegment befindet sich eine Schraube mit Konter-Mutter an einem Rollenhebel.
Die Mutter ist zu lösen (dabei die Schraube selbst aber nicht mit verdrehen, sonst stimmt die Einstellung gar nicht mehr), die Schraube ca. 1/4 Umdrehung weiter eindrehen (´vielleicht auch 1/2 Umdrehung .... da muss man sich aber herantasten) und dann die Mutter wieder kontern. Beim Kontern die Schraube selbst unbedingt festhalten, damit sie sich nicht mit verdreht und damit sich deren Einstellung verändert.

Wenn man diese Einstellung an einer Mechanik durchführen möchte, die in der Box eingebaut ist, dann benötigt man Geduld und Chirurgenfingerchen ( ein Doktortitel allein hilft da nicht weiter ... ).

Sequence of the problem as an example:
Record no. 1 is selected. It is played as is should and returned correctly into the magazine. The motor switches off, but the selector arm continues to move slightly (approx. one pin).
Record no. 1 is selected again. The corresponding pin is set correctly, the selector arm turns, but does not complete the almost full 360-degree turn, instead it is stopping exactly one pin before the set (selected) pin, in this case at record no. 2.
The record no. 2 is played and then returned to the magazine correct. Since pin no. 1 is still set, the record that was actually selected, record no. 1, is then played.

Answer:
When the last record has been played and the mechanism switches off, the tone arm remains behind the selector in the space between the last played pin (record) and the next pin.
If this is not the case, the switch-off point for the motor must be set to “slightly earlier” (the microswitch underneath the selector).

If, by chance, the last record played is requested again, the search arm behind the selector must perform a nearly 360-degree rotation. This rotation depends solely on the stroke performed by the “cake-shaped” Pertinax tooth segment.
If the stroke is too small, the search arm behind the selector cannot make a 360-degree turn and plays the record one position earlier (which was not selected and whose pin is not set/ activated).
Since the desired pin, one position further on, is still set (but was not reached), the motor remains energized and then plays the desired record after all. The pin is still set, so a new search process is performed and the “cake-shaped” Pertinax tooth segment performs its stroke again and pushes the search arm over the stiffness of the torsion spring to the next set pin ... in this case a short distance, because it is the nearest pin (in this case, the torsion spring is actually preloaded further ... even to the maximum).

Remedy:
At the bottom of the “cake-shaped” Pertinax tooth segment, there is a screw with a lock nut on a roller lever.
Loosen the nut (but do not turn the screw itself, otherwise the setting will no longer be correct), turn the screw in about 1/4 turn (or maybe 1/2 turn ... but you will need to try carefully step by step) and then lock the nut again. When tightening the lock nut, be sure to hold the screw itself so that it does not turn and change its setting.


If you want to make this adjustment on a mechanism that is still built into the jukebox, you will need patience and surgeon's fingers (a PhD alone will not be helpful at all ... ).

Einstellung der Höhe des Plattentellers Wurlitzer 1015 u.a.

Adjustment of turntable height in 1015 et al

Mein Plattenteller läuft nicht so hoch wie er soll. Beim Plattenring Nummer 1 stößt entweder die Nadel an den Plattenring oder der Druck auf die Platte ist zu niedrig und die Nadel springt. Ich habe es schon mit dem Einstellen am Tonarm und der Stange versucht. Gibt es eine Möglichkeit die Höhe des Plattentellers einzustellen?
Die Einstellung der Maximalhöhe des Plattentellers ist wie folgt vorzunehmen:

1. Erst kontrollieren, wann die Mechanik ausgekuppelt und nur noch der Plattenteller angetrieben wird. Dazu muss die Rolle, die über den Hebe-Nocken für den Plattenteller läuft wirklich am höchsten Punkt des Nockens (der Nocken hat hier ein kleines "Plateau") auskuppeln.
Wie man den Auskuppelpunkt einstellt, steht im Manual. Ist dieser Punkt korrekt eingestellt kommt Schritt 2.

2. Dann kann an der Exzenterschraube die Plattentellerhöhe zusätzlich eingestellt werden. Auf jeden Fall die Madenschraube (Zollinbusschlüssel unabdingbar) lösen, weil sonst das Gewinde der Exzenterschraube ruiniert wird! Diese Einstellung sollte erfolgen, wenn der Plattenteller "oben" und die Mechanik ausgekuppelt ist (Motor zur Einstellungsarbeiten abstecken).

3. Erst nach diesen korrekten Einstellungen ist der Tonarm einzustellen, damit dieser über den obersten Plattenring hinwegschwenkt und auch noch eine Kleinigkeit höher steht, als die Plattenoberfläche der Platte # 1 (Schallplatte mit zugehöriger Alu-Unterlegscheibe verwenden).

Diese Reihenfolge sollt eingehalten werden, weil sonst durch die Justierung in Schritt # 2 evtl. niemals die Maximalhöhe des Plattentellers erreicht wird, da die Mechanik viel zu früh auskuppelt.

My turntable is not moving as high as it should. With record ring number 1, either the needle hits the record ring or the pressure on the record is too low and the needle jumps. I have already tried adjusting the tone arm and the rod.
Is there a way to adjust the height of the turntable?

The adjustments of the maximum turntable height should be set like this:

1. First check when the mechanism is disengaged and only the turntable is driven. To do this, the roller that runs over the lifting cam for the turntable must really disengage at the highest point of the cam (the cam has a small "plateau" here).
The manual explains how to set the disengagement point. If this point is set correctly, step 2 follows.

2. The turntable height can also be adjusted using the eccentric screw. Be sure to loosen the grub screw (Allen key essential), otherwise the thread of the eccentric screw will be ruined! This adjustment should be made when theturntable is "up" and the mechanism is disengaged (disconnect the motor for adjustment.

3. Only after these correct settings have been made should the tonearm be adjusted so that it swings over the uppermost record ring and is also slightly higher than the record surface of record #1 (use record with corresponding aluminum washer).

This sequence should be followed, otherwise the maximum height of the turntable may never be reached due to the adjustment in step #2, as the mechanism will disengage far too early.
