Wenn ich bei einer Tempo 2/120 einen Titel mehrmals direkt hintereinander drücke, wie oft kann ich ihn dann hören? Mein Problem: Ich möchte ein Lied z.B. 5 mal hören, drücke also 5 mal die Taste, das Lied kommt aber nur zweimal. Ist das normal?

Antwort: Die Tempo sowie alle anderen Boxen mit mechanischer Wahl können grundsätzlich die Wahl nur einmal bringen. Im besten Fall zweimal -  wenn man nur z.B. die A 1 zweimal wählt, und zwar dann, wenn die Platte schon aufgelegt ist und dann die 2 Wahl erfolgt. In diesem Fall wäre der Wahlstift dann schon wieder zurückgeschossen worden und kann dann neu geschossen werden. Somit ist das "Problem" völlig normal.

If I select a title in a Tempo 2/120 several times in a row directly, how often can I listen to it? My problem: I want to listen to a song e.g. five times and hence press the pushbutton five times, but the song gets played only two times. Is this common?

Answer: Model Tempo and all other models with mechanical selection can play the song only once. In best case two times: If for example A1 gets selected two times at the moment and the seond selection gts made when the record is already on the turntable. In that case the selection pin would have been cancelled already und can be activated again.
Hence this "problem" is common.

Wahlprobleme: es werden nicht alle Wahlen gefunden,  mehrfach wählen ist nötig - Modelle 1438 bis 408 - außer 1484, 1493, 1494, 404

Selection problem: Not all selections get found, selecting the same several times is needed - Models 1438 to 408 - except 1484, 1493, 1494, 404

Folgendes wurde unternommen:
- Tastatur zerlegt und gereinigt
- Kabelbaum überprüft
- Wahlhebel in der Trommel auf Leichtgängigkeit geprüft und mit Ballistol geölt
Einige Wahlhebel bewegen sich nicht, wenn sie angewählt werden. Andere Hebel benötigen mehrmaliges Wählen, nachdem die Box eine Zeit lang nicht gelaufen ist. Ist der elektrische Impuls zu schwach ist?

Antwort: Wahrscheinlich liegt das Problem in der Wahltrommel. Die 120er Rock-Ola`s hatten in der Wahltrommel sog. "Clappercoils", die die Masse auf die einzelnen Spulen durchschalten. Jede Clappercoil hat eine bewegliche Kontaktplatte mit zwanzig Kontakten. Sollten da einige Kontakte nicht sauber oder verbogen sein, kann es schon zu Ausfällen bei der Wahl kommen.
Es lohnt sich also, den ganzen Selektor zu zerlegen. So können alle Kontakte vernünftig gereinigt und gegebenenfalls justiert werden.
Wenn der Selektor schon geöffnet ist, lohnt auch die  Zerlegung der einzelnen Segmente, um die Wahlstifte und vor allem die Wahlplättchen (sie lassen die Wahlstifte auf der Innenseite der Segmente besser "gleiten") richtig zu säubern. Das häufigste Problem einer nicht funktionierenden Wahl sind verdreckte, verklebte oder verharzte Wahlstifte. Auch das Ölen mit Ballistol hilft nur kurzzeitig. Diese Wahlstifte mit ihren Wahlplättchen dürfen AUF KEINEN FALL geölt oder geschmiert werden, da jegliche Art von Schmierung nur Schmutz und Staub anziehen und die Stifte wieder schnell verkleben. Wenn alles sauber ist, dann lassen sich die Wahlstifte auch ohne Ballistol butterweich bewegen.

The following was done already:
- Keyboard dis-assembled and cleaned
- Wiring harness checked
- Selection pins at drum checked for smooth movement and oiled with Ballistol
Some selection levers do not move when geting selected. Other levers need several selections after the jukebox wasn't used for some time. Is the electrical impulse too low?

Answer: Most likely the cause is located in the selection drum. The 120 selection Rock_olas do have so called clapper coils which switch the ground to each coil. Each clappercoil has a moveable contact plate with twenty contacts. If there some of the contacts either dirty or even bend, then a failure with selections is possible.
It is worth to dis-assemble the selector.  That way all contatcts can be cleaned well und adjusted if needed.
When the selector is already open it is worth to dis-assemble each segment to clean the selection pins and more the little contact plates (they do let the selection pins slide better on the inside of the segments) very well.
The most common problem of a not working selection are dirty, sticky or gummed up selection pins. Also oiling with e.g. Ballistol helps only in a short run. The selection lever and the contact plates NEVER should get any oli or lubricant, because each oil and lubricant attracts dust and drit and hence all will be sticky again soon. If all is cleaned well., then the selection levers can be moved very easy and smooth without any oil.

Das DC Start-Relais im Netzteil zieht vermutlich nicht an. Wenn sich die Pins auf dem Selector beim Wählen bewegen, ist die Wahlanlage und auch die Crediteinheit in Ordnung. Wenn ein Wahlpin bewegt wird (egal ob durch den Wahlvorgang oder mit der Hand), muss das DC START RELAY im Netzteil anziehen und die Betriebsspannung für den Mechanismus einschalten und das Plattenmagazin sollte zu laufen beginnen. Das DC START RELAY schaltet auch den Plattenteller - Motor ein. Das gleiche sollte passieren, wenn der RECORD LOAD SWITCH betätigt wird, nur dass in diesem Fall gesetzte Wahlpins überfahren werden.

Wenn auch der Plattenteller - Motor nicht läuft, wenn man den RECORD LOAD SWITCH betätigt, dann ist das ein Anzeichen, dass das DC START RELAY nicht angezogen wird. Die Ursache könnte sein, dass die Sicherung oder der Gleichrichter defekt ist. Ggfs. ist auch das Relais selbst defekt oder verdreckt

The DC start relay in the power supply unit is probably not energized. If the pins on the selector move during selection, the selection system and the credit unit are OK. If a selector pin is moved (whether by the selection process or by hand, the DC START RELAY in the power supply should energize and turn on the operating voltage for the mechanism and the record magazine should begin to run. The DC START RELAY also switches on the turntable motor. The same should happen when the RECORD LOAD SWITCH is activated, except that in this case set selector pins are overridden.


If the turntable motor does not run when the RECORD LOAD SWITCH is activated, this is an indication that the DC START RELAY is not energized. The cause could be that the fuse or the rectifier is defective. The relay itself may also be defective or dirty

Selection problem: After successful selection the buttons stay lacthed, the latch bar slenoid does not release

Modelle mit Buchstaben- und Zahlentasten ab 1484, 1488, 1493, 1494, 1495, 1496, 1497 ff.

Es gibt zwei Möglichkeiten: der Spulenkern könnte mechanisch kleben oder die Spule kann elektrisch aktiviert bleiben.
Im ersten Fall ist die Spule zu reinigen und eventuell die Rückstellfeder etwas zu verstärken.
Im zweiten Fall sind die Kontakte des ATTRACT DELAY RELAY (das Relais in der Crediteinheit) zu kontrollieren und vermutlich einzustellen. Dieses Relais unterbricht den Strom zur Verriegelungsspule. Es sollte kurz anziehen, wenn die RESET COIL (in der Crediteinheit) anzieht und die Wahl eingeschrieben wird. Es sollte allerdings so lange angezogen bleiben, bis die LOCK BAR SWITCHES (auf der Tastatur) öffnen, also die Tasten entriegelt werden.
Der genaue Vorgang ist im Servicemanual beschrieben.

Models with letter and number push buttons from 1484, 1488, 1493, 1494, 1495, 1496, 1497 ff.

There are two possibilities: The coil core could be mechanically stuck or the coil could remain electrically activated.
In the first case, clean the coil and possibly reinforce the return spring slightly.
In the second case, the contacts of the ATTRACT DELAY RELAY (the relay in the credit unit) should be checked and probably adjusted. This relay interrupts the current to the locking coil. It should energize briefly when the RESET COIL (in the credit unit) is energized and the selection is written. However, it should remain energized until the LOCK BAR SWITCHES (on the keyboard) open, i.e. the push buttons are unlocked.

The exact procedure is described in the service manual.

Löschen der B-Seiten in Rock-Ola 1484 u. vglb.

Cancelling of B-sides in Rock-Ola 1484 and similar models.

1. Problem: Die B-Seiten werden nicht gelöscht.
Antwort: Die Löschspule könnte defekt sein.
Um dies einzugrenzen kann man die Löschspulen der A- und B-Seiten miteinander vertauschen. Wandert der Fehler mit, ist die Spule defekt. Bleibt der Fehler auf der gleichen Seite bestehen, liegt ein anderes Problem vor.
Natürlich kann man die Spule auch auf Durchgang messen.

2. Problem: Die Wahlen der B-Seiten werden nicht gelöscht. Dafür versucht der Auswahlhebel die nicht gewählte A-Seite zu löschen. Der Auswahlhebel für die B-Seite rührt sich nicht.
Antwort: neben der Löschspule sollten auch der Read-Out-Schleifkontakt und der A/B Umkehrschalter überprüft werden.

1. Trouble: B-sides do not get canceeled.
Answer: The cancel coil could be defective.
To narrow this down the cancel coils of A and B sides could be exchanged with each other. Does the fault move with the coil, it is faulty. Stays the fault on the same side, another problem is the cause.
Of course one can measure the coil for continuity.

2. Trouble: B-sides do not get canceeled. Therefore the lever for the A-side tries to cancel the not selected A-side. The lever for the B-side doesn't react.
Answer: Next to the cancel coil the read-out-wiper and the A/B snap switch should be checked for right function.
 

Bei komplett überholter Capri II (Rock-Ola 414) brennt die Hilfsspule durch.

Bei meiner Capri II ist aus heiterem Himmel und ohne vorherige Probleme die Hilfsspule am Selector durchgebrannt. Vorher wurden ca. 15 Titel problemlos gewählt und abgespielt. Hat jemand dafür eine Erklärung?
Unterliegen die Spulen einer Alterung? Die jetzige Spule wurde vor ca. 18 Monaten gewechselt. Ansonsten funktioniert die Box einwandfrei, wenn man über die erste Einwahl hinüberhilft.

Antworten:

1. Die Hilfsspule soll nur kurz anziehen, um die erste Wahl zu erleichtern. Daher sollte überprüft werden, ob sie zuviel Strom bekommt oder zu lange angezogen bleibt. Korrodierte Kontakte könnten hierfür z.B. verantwortlich sein. Auch die Write-In- und Subract-Spulen sollten in dem Zusammenhang überprüft werden.
    

2. Ich denke, dass ein Rest-Magnetismus im Kern des Stop-Relais ist und es dadurch zu lange in der „Ein“-Position ist.
   Meine Lösung: ein Stück Kunststoffband zwischen Kern und Kontaktanker sorgt für jahrelanges zuverlässiges Funktionieren.

In my Capri II, the wobble plate coil on the selector burned out of the blue and without any previous problems. Before that, about 15 songs were selected and played without any problems. Does anyone have an explanation for this?
Are the coils subject to ageing? The current coil was replaced about 18 months ago. Otherwise the jukebox works perfectly if you help it over the first selection.
 

Answers:

1. The wobble plate coil should only be energized briefly to facilitate the first selection. It should therefore be checked whether it receives too much current or remains energized for too long. Corroded contacts could be responsible for this, for example. The write-in and subract coils should also be checked in this context.
    

2. I think that there's remanent magnetism in the stop relay core and the relay is too long in the "on" position.
   My solution: A piece of plastic tape between the core and the contact armature gives years of reliable working.
