Unterschied Continental und Continental 2

Außer den optischen Unterschieden, die man ja schon auf Abbildungen sehen kann, gibt es meines Wissens folgende technische Unterschiede:

Die Conti 1 war standardmäßig mit einem Mono-Verstärker ausgestattet, konnte aber auf Stereo aufgerüstet werden: Verstärkernachrüstung, zweites Tonarmkabel, Stereopoti, Stereotonabnehmersystem GE VR22 und ein kleines STEREOPHONIC - Schild, welches vorne hinter der kugeligen Scheibe montiert wurde.
Auch die Drehzahlumschaltung von 33 auf 45 U/min konnte nachgerüstet werden (Auto-Mix). Die Metallteile der Conti waren silber eloxiert.

Die Conti 2 hatte standardmäßig einen Stereoverstärker und eine Geschwindigkeitsumschaltung von 33 auf 45 U/min und umgekehrt (Singleschallplatten mit kleinem Mittelloch wurden erkannt und die Plattentellergeschwindigkeit heruntergeschaltet; das gab es auch ab 1961 bei Rock-Ola als Option). Bei den meisten heute zu sehenden Conti 2 fehlen Teile dieser Umschalteinheit.
Die Conti 2 war mit dem sog. "Stereo-Round-System" ausgestattet, was durch zwei kleine, ovale Lautsprecher seitlich im Gehäuse realisiert war. Stellt man eine Conti 2 schräg in eine Zimmerecke, ergibt sich dadurch eine Art von klanglicher Basisverbreiterung, was nicht uninteressant klingt.
Bei der Conti 2 ist die Plattenspielerumrahmung aus einer Art Fiberglas und somit lichtdurchlässig. Dahinter sitzen zwei kurze Leuchtstoffröhren, was die Abdeckung "glühen" läßt.
Die Metallteile der Conti 2 waren verchromt (blättert leider sehr häufig ab, weil Alu verchromt wurde).
Insgesamt gesehen dürfte die Conti 2 wegen des Stereoverstärkers und der "Intermix-Option" (33/45 Umschaltung) die gefragtere Jukebox sein.
  

Next to those which can be seen on the pictures there are the following technical differences:

For Conti 1 the mono amp was standard but could be upgraded to stereo: extra kit for the amp, second tonearm wire, stereo potentiometer, stereo cartridge GE VR22 plus a small STEREOPHONIC sign which was mounted behind the the "bowl" window.
Also the speed could be upgraded to the so called auto-mix (33/45 rpm).
All metal parts of Conti 1 had been silver anodized.

For Conti 2 the stereo amplifier was a standard feature as well as the auto-mix-feature. This auto-mix-kit worked in both directions - from 33 to 45 rpm and the other way around.
The records with a small centre hole were "known" and the turntable speed was slowed down; this was also optional with Rock-Olas 1961 models.
Most of Conti 2 models these days are missing this auto-mix kit.

Model Continental 2 was the first one having the "Stereo-Round-System" which was realised by two small oval speakers in the cabinet sides.
If a Conti 2 is put into a corner of a room due to these oval side speakers the sound gets a more wide base which shows a great effect to the sound.
The cover for the record player is made of transluscent fibre and is illuminated by two small fluorescent lights (tubbe lights). This gives the jukebox a "glowing" effect.
The metal parts of Conti 2 had been chrome plated which peels off often as the material was aluminium.
In general because of the stereo amp and the option for intermix Conti 2 should be the jukebox with a greater demand.
