| From vacation greetings to field mail to expressions of love – the postcard delivered every conceivable message; long before there was a telephone, e-mail or even smartphone. It has been possible to send a postcard in Germany for over 150 years. A matter of course from today’s point of view – at the time of its introduction, however, it was a sensation that was to change people’s communication forever. Especially the picture postcards – i.e. postcards with picture motifs – are special witnesses of their time. Whether from the time of the German Empire or the young Federal Republic, coin-operated machines were part of everyday life even back then and thus became part of the motifs on the cards. Come with us, stroll through the paths of German history and discover fascinating vending machines and their locations of the past. |
