On Sunday evening for the first time the “Tatort” soundtrack (explanatory note: A German crime series which runs until today) sounds in the living rooms of the republic. Willy Brandt kneels in memory of the victims of the Second World War in Warsaw. The German national team becomes soccer world champion in its own country. Dieter Thomas Heck presents the latest hits in the TV “Hitparade” and the “Pril flower” (explanatory note: A decal which came with washing soap called “Pril”) makes its way into the nation’s kitchens. These events have left their marks on life in this country and have burned themselves into the collective memory.
A chewing gum on the street corner is “pulled” out of the vending machine, the favourite song in the ice cream parlour is pressed at the jukebox or the “pinball” in the pub. These little memories are also inseparably linked to life in the 1970s.
The exhibition “The Wild 1970s” is a journey into the German past. It reminds, amuses and shows how vending machines inspired people.
