Genetic analysis have shown that the dog started developing from the wolf about 135.000 years ago. Yet it is highly unlikely that the wolvess were simply domesticated. Contrary to dogs they loose their tameness when they become young grown ups. It is assumed that there had been some wolves that were more trusting and thus dared to go near the upcoming settlings of men. They discovered this way an ecological niche, because there always had been some leftovers. Thus the more trusting wolves had a selective benefit and over thousands of years they evolved into their own species: The dog. Humans were able to breed these for special purposes and thus ensured their survival and expansion.
One of these purposes was known in Ancient Egypt already: Hunting.

Like the German Wirehaired Pointer (Kö-F5521) the Weimaraner is a hound, but the origin is not precisely reported. The name derives from the Duke of Weimar, at whose court the dog was held. The grey fur can be either long or short haired. The Weimaraner is persistent and affectionate but not to full of spirits, which qualifies it not only for hunting but being a therapy dog too.

Our plush Weimaraner shows the short haired fur. Instead of hunting it loves also to cuddle, watch and being a trueful companion.

The third photo shows the Weimaraner next to the German Wirehaired Pointer (Kö-F5521).
