Years 1935 - 1951
Rock-Ola's mechanism, developed and patented by Paul H. Smyth, was basically used up to model 1434. First 12, then 20 selections were available.
To increase the amount of selections it was needed to modify the mechanism. Now the 78 rpm record wasn't placed on a turnatbale anylonger but clamped in the centre.
Thus the record could be played from either top or bottom - depending on the selected side. Therefore the tone arm was equipped with two cartridges.
