The dodo (Raphus cucullatus) lived as an endemic bird on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. It reached a height of about one meter and weighed between 10 and 20 kg. It had blue-grey plumage and a blackish, curved beak about 23 cm long with a reddish spot. The tail consisted of a tuft of curled feathers. Its weak chest muscles and small wings did not enable it to fly. As a pure herbivore, the dodo fed on seeds, fruits and nuts in addition to calvary nuts.
The dodo was discovered by Dutch sailors who were stranded on the at that time uninhabited island after a storm at the end of the 16th century. With them came rats and feral pets, which destroyed and ate the dodo's nests. The dodos also became easy prey for humans "thanks" to their trusting nature. Because of not having any enemies originally the dodo did not have any escape or defensive behavior. It is therefore not surprising that the dodo has been considered extinct since the end of the 17th century, just 100 years after it became known first.

Our dodo, on the other hand, could stay forever, it does not extinct. It does not need an island to feel at home. A children's room or an environment with other animals to play with is completely sufficient.
