Sloths (Folivora) belong to the family of mammals. Honestly, their name does not do justice to them, as they are not lazy, only very slow. Surely, they do sleep a lot, up to 15 or even 20 hours per day. But this is a very clever behaviour. It saves them a lot of energy and they are harder to spot by predators. Thus one should maybe rather call them 'slows' instead.

Sloths are adapted perfectly to their environment. With their strong claws they hook onto branches and hang there upside down all day long. Moving slowly up and down they use their flexible head to reach and eat fruits, leaves and blooms. If they have to leave the tree they are quite clumsy, having to push themselves forward with their hind legs while laying on their stomach. Thus they quickly - with up to remarkable 2 km/h (1.3 mph) at best - climb up the next tree once they reach it, hiding in its branches again.

Our sloth too likes to cling onto trees, as you can see in the last picture. But it likes to climb up your legs and snuggle into your safe arms just as well. If you should start to think that it takes a short nap, pay close heed. Maybe it is awake and does move, but only very very slowly.
