Seagulls (Laridae) are their own family within the species of birds, that can be found everywhere on this earth. They have different sizes, but always a white-grey plumage, webbing on their feet and a yellow beak. As seagulls almost always live close to the shore, most people associate their call with the ocean, as their name also already implies. Seafarers also used to rely on this knowledge, as they could be certain to come close to a shore again, as soon as they were able to see seagulls.

Seagulls are very adapted to the life close to the sea. They breed on the shore, even in steep cliffs, and feed of everything they can find. They search for fish or crabs underwater and swoop them up with their sharp beaks, or search for insects on shore. They are so well adapted, they are even able to drink sea water. A special gland collects the salt from the water and excretes it at their beak.

Seagulls are usually breeding in large colonies, and parent birds share the raising of their young. Fledglings have an inconspicuous brown-grey plumage, which changes to the typical white-grey color when they fledge. Seagulls can get as old as 30 years.

This seagull is an adult bird. Whether is it a young adult or already an old one, we do not know. For sure it is a good companion for any age. Maybe, if you listen closely with this seagull, you can also hear it, the sound of the sea.
