Sparrow "Tschiep"

Product 28 of 54

The Sparrow (Passer domesticus) is also known as True Sparrow or Old World Sparrow. For more than 10,000 years it is a true companion to people, and can be found all over the world where humans stay whole year round, except for tropical areas.
Its success strategy is the adaptability, e.g. in finding and using nesting sites.

Nevertheless: in 2002 the NABU (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union, founded in Germany in 1899), voted the Sparrow being "Bird of the Year". Because in many Germany and other European countries the amount of sparrows did decrease dramatically partially. Hence the sparrow is listed on a prewarn list of endangered species.

Within the years various expressions using the term sparrow are arised. (We don't know whether this is the same in Non-German speaking countries.) Some refer to dirty sparrows, others to their brain meaning a particuliar small one or that sparrows already whistle it from the roofs (meaning something everybody talks about already) or to rant and rave. Anyway, the last one might be right. But who says "sparrows's brain" and means "birdbrained" probably doesn't know better. Because it for sure, that sparrows can learn a lot, e.g. they can imitate certain behaviours and even can learn to do a musical sequence.
