The Tawny Owl (Strix aluco) belongs to the middle-sized owls and lives from Europe to Sibiria, in South-East-Asia and Iran. It needs a richly structured landscape with forest and woods alternating with open spaces. Being a cavity nester it accepts rock caves, holes within a wall, bird houses and even attics.

Tawny Owls are crepuscular and nocturnal. They can be found in brown, grey and a rusty colour scheme. They are monogamic animals and stay lifelong with their partner. In nature they can rech an age of 18 years, in a zoo also up to 27 years.

The brood takes about 30 days and is done by the female Tawny Owl only. Already before this time it is feeded by the male. After another ca. 30 days the young tawny owls leave thier nest and fall to the soft ground of the forst. They walk to the tree where they can climb up and stay on a limb. They will get fed by their parents up to ca. 100 days before leaving them.

Our plush tawny owl still loves to take care of its offspring (Kö-F5410) like seen on the second photo.
The plush toy is filled with special polyester fibres and granules and very soft. When listening very carefully you might hear a clear eeary-nice "huu-huhuhu-huu"...
