For thousands of years, until the invention of the automobiles, horses have been the most efficient way of transportation. Whether as couriers, where high velocity over great distances was important, or as pack animals, or as a working horse for hard work they were needed everywhere. Until machinery equipment did replace them. Nowadays some advanteages are re-discovered, e.g. in forest and garden workings where they are mch more flexible and also do not harm the soil as much. But today they mostly are used in sports, both leisure and professional sports.
Many think of freedom and grace when thinking of horses; not for nothing it is said that "to ride a horse is to ride the sky".

Haflingers, also known as the Avelignese, are mountain horses. Their name is derivated from the North Italian village Hafling. They are very frugal and rather small, at the same time they are very light footed. That is why today they are still used to supply outlying chalets or to till ground that is to steep for tractors. They are docile and patient, thus are not easily aroused and very suited for riding beginners such as children.

Of course that ist equally true for our haflinger of plush. Even though it cannot be ridden, it still is a wonderful playing companion.
