Koala, small

Product 50 of 106

At first: No, koalas are no bears. Koalas belong to the family of marsupials und do live only in East and South-East Australia in light eucalyptus woods. After being almost wiped out due to their fur , they are protected today.
The name "Koala" originates from the aborigine language meaning as much as "doesn't drink". Indeed the Koala doesn't drink (much) because he gets all needed fluid when eating the hydrous eucalyptus leaves.
Koalas do sleep 14 hours per day and need 5 hours for eating. The remaining 5 hours they take a rest do recover from exhausting eating.
Time to get jealous, isn't it?

After 35 days only the little koala baby gets delivered, weighs less than 1 g, is about 2 cm long, blind and with no fur. It crawls by itself into the mother's pouch to continue the rest of its development. This takes about 6 - 7 months. After 22 weeks the eyes get open and the the young koala looks out of the pouch.

Our plush koala does have a swivel-head. The hands are made with velcro so it can hold itself on a stick, limb or so.
Have a look into its eyes: It's hard to resist, isn't it?
