Sloth bears (Melursus ursinus) from the bear family (Ursidae) look similar to the Asian Black Bear, but are not closely related to it. They live in South Asia, more specifically in India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. There, they inhabit mountainous regions as well as forests and grasslands.
The sloth bear owes its name to its long, flexible lips, which function like a suction tool. This enables them to eat insects and honey in addition to fruit, and, rather rarely, small to medium-sized vertebrates. To search for food, they climb trees and dig in the ground with their long claws. Their senses of sight and hearing are only moderately developed.
Their fur is long, shaggy, and black, with a white U or V shape on their chest.

One to two, rarely three cubs are born in an underground den. Initially blind and helpless, their eyes open after about three weeks. After another four to five weeks, they leave the burrow and can be seen riding on their mother's back. They stay with her until they are two or three years old and fully grown. Sloth bears kept in zoos have reached maximum ages between 27 and 32 years.

Unfortunately, the sloth bear has been on the Red List of Threatened Species since 1990. They are threatened with extinction in the near future. In Bangladesh, this has already been the case since 2013.

This sloth bear will not become extinct - thanks to the work of Kösener Manufaktur. It is not only a collector's item for stuffed animal lovers, but also a great companion in children's playrooms. Children can cuddle with it, go on adventures, and roam through the “wilderness” of their bedrooms. It also comforts little ones during sad times.
