From the Mohair and Alpaca-Line!

The chicken (Gallus domesticus) is the domesticated fowl, a subspecies of the Red Junglefowl (Gallus gallus) of South-East-Asia. It has been a domestic animal for 5000 years, finding its way to Europe via China and Egypt.

Living under natural circumstances its natural behaviour can still be observed: foraging for food at dusk and sunset, covering under trees during daytime and flying into the trees for nighttime. Thus it is protected against other animals.
Chickens live in social groups with a flexible hierachy. They can recognize more than 100 other chicken. They love long baths in the dust and to doze in trees. Some even like music. In short: They can be called a bon vivant.
After 21 days the chicks hatch. They are self-contained from the beginning but enjoy the closeness to other chicks and chicken of course.

Our chick "Nelly" loves being with other chicks as well as taking baths in the sand or playing. On the last pictures it is shown with its brown sibling "Molly" (Kö-F6741) and its mother "Isolde" (Kö-F6750).
