Gorillas (Gorilla) live in the humid tropical forests and misty mountains of Africa. Even though they belong to the closest relatives of humans, their most critical threat is us.

Formerly gorillas were often depicted as monsters. Many rumours spread across the world, leading to the film "King Kong" firstly produced in 1933 and several times more since then. They were feared by locals too, probably because of their defending and intimidating behaviour. If the dominant male gorilla (called silverback) defends his family, it is standing back on its feet, roaring out loud, shaking benches and hitting the ground. But palpability among two gorillas are seen rarely.
The most known behaviour to drum with the fists on the breast is done by all gorillas, not the male only. One thinks today it's a gesture of welcoming each other or to define their location.

In the meantime researchers like Dian Fossey, that intensely explored the life of the gorillas in freedom, showed that gorillas are very peaceful animals. Indeed, they are very social and familiar, their behaviour is most similar to ours from all apes.

That must be the reason why our gorilla is the perfect companion for the whole family. Kids can cuddle with him and seek for comfort or shelter, or play with him joyfully. And for adults he to is a good fellow, too, and a very patient listener all the more.
