The Marican Blackbear (Ursus americanus), also known as Baribal, is domesticated in the woods and near courses of rivers in North America. It lives basically by itself but can be found in small groups as well if enough food is offered.
The name "Black Bear" does give the imagination about the colour of the fur being black. Indeed, not all black bears are black. Getting westbound they show lighter colours as well like chocolate, honey-yellow or red-brown. Even some white or creme coloured black bears can be found. Those Kermode Bears (or known as "Spirit Bear") are a subspecies living in Canada.

In 2011, Kösen's 100th anniversary, the known Gold-Collection was extended by this Black Bear "Baribal". Only 100 pieces were produced worldwide. Particuliar characteristics next to finest mohair are the eyes from onyx, the claws from real horn and the visible Kösen logo from real massive gold.
The Black Bear gets handcrafted in a sitting position from alltogether 79 individual pieces from finest mohair plush. It gets delivered in a strong wooden case ( W33 x H44 x D30 cm) with glass front which offers the Kösen logo etched.
