The ermine is a small member of the family of martens that are home to all northern regions of Europe, Asia and North America. They live in meadows and bushy landscapes preferredly close to water. Their prey are smaller mammals, but also reptiles, fishes or insects. That makes them very efficient and valuable pest control. They even hunt lots of mice and rats, following them into their burrows. Before the wide spread of house cats ermines were kept as pest controls on farms. Their fur is especially soft and fluffy and known and popular for their pure white colour. Unluckily today they are mostly kept for their fur but also hunted for them.

Our plush ermine too has such a wonderful fluffy coat, but completely without further ado of a real animal. But it is at least just as cute and far easier to keep around and to cuddle with. Only the mouse that might have moved into your attic will not have to fear this wonderful plush animal.
