The blue-and-yellow macaw (Ara araruana), also known as the blue-and-gold macaw, is one of twelve specis of macaws. It is a big parrot that inhabits the South American continent and is known for its striking colour. The back and the upper parts of the wings and tail are of a strong blue that often has different shimmers. The chest and the respective underparts shine in a bright to orange yellow. The naked face is white and lined with small black feathers.

Blue-and-yellow macaws are very sociable birds that do not like to be alone and like to be in large groups when in the wild. They mostly live either as a couple or in families up to six birds. In captivity they accustom themselves well to the human and form strong bonds. As all parrots they are very intelligent and quick learners, thus they can perform tricks. They can even speak some words, gladly repeating them loudly, just like parrots are known to do.

Our blue-and-yellow luckily is quieter but it too likes to talk if you listen closely. We were told that it is already looking forward to its new home. It is is gentle and trusting, just see for yourselves.
