The ibex is a species of wild goats (Capra) that inhabits the European Alps, Middle East, high-altitude mountains of Central Asia and Northafrica. No matter which species it is, all ibex do have the long, backwards curved horns and a goatbeard.
The horns the ibex uses to fight with other males during mating time, to establish a hierarchy. They bump their horns together, locking them together and trying to push their opponent out of their way.
Ibexes are very agile animals and extraordinary climbers, that can move over steep slopes as if they were flying. In case of danger they flee the slopes upwards, the male ibex warn each other with a long whistle.

Depending on species many ibex belong to the threatened species. The main reason for this is men and his extense hunt for the horns due to some superstition in the past. The Walia Ibex, it is said that only less than 500 of these animals are living today in Ethiopia, is one of the most threatened hoofed animal.

Our ibex "Louis" is also very fast and agile. Maybe you will hear its whistle every now and then while it settles down in its new home. But surely it will feel safe soon. Just make sure it gets enough possibilities for climbing!
