Sea Eagle

Product 17 of 27

The Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), The German heraldic animal, belongs as a bird of prey to the accipitrids. It is located in the boreal rich of water regions in Eurasia - from Greenland to Japan.

Eagles (Aquila) have been a fascination for men since ancient times. They are noble and majestic and were often considered a sign of the gods. They represent strength, power, force, superority, and freedom and are often called "Lord of the Air".
Sea eagles living in Germany have been endangered. Decreasing areas for hunting, use of pesticides, and animals shot with lead containing ammunition caused a decreasing popularity. Only straight projects, e.g. by the WWF, to protect these great animals will (hopefully) help to settle down our heraldic animal again in Germany, and other countries of course. Currently we do have 580 couples in Germany, about 12,000 worldwide.

Our plsuh toy "Selma" was made in Germany and of course feels home here. Nevertheless it should be protected like its lifelike relatives to then offer guardian, strength, freedom, or superiority.
In child-like plays the sea eagle will surely take more roles and cahracteristics. No matter which ones, it surely will be a great playmate - not only in Germany.

The second photo shows the sea eagle "Selma" with its chick "Toni" (Kö-F5050).
